Tung Chung West & tunnels : On-site geolocation system
project
The project involves a westward extension of the Tung Chung Line (TCL), and the design and construction of a new station at Tung Chung West and a tunnel from the existing Tung Chung Station in Hong Kong.
Challenges
The challenge is setting up an accurate on-site positioning system for the Tung Chung West & Tunnels Project, which covers multiple worksites, including Tung Chung Crescent, Tung Chung Ancillary, and the future Tung Chung West station. With work taking place both outdoors and in confined spaces, it is crucial to have a geolocation system in real time.
This helps ensure staff safety by monitoring their locations, improving emergency response times, and enforcing safety protocols across both open and restricted areas.

UBY’s solution
UBY Safe solution paired with the access control system
Entrance and exit of the staff and enforce usage of the geolocation tag:
- Confirm that all the staff are holding a geolocation tag when entering the site
- Check the health status of the geolocation tag (operating conditions, settings, remaining battery)
- Pairing with badge ID
UBY Safe solution in confined space
UBY provides the Wirepas mesh system to detect workers with an accuracy of 5 metres in TBM confined space, in order to provide relevant information to the safety and project team in the event of safety problems (uncertified workers, people in restricted areas).
UBY Safe solution in outdoor areas
- Installation of Bluetooth Low Emission
- (BLE) scanners in order to enhance safety and security in construction environments.
- The ZoneSafe can scan up to 250 geolocation tags at a time in an 70m radius.
- Over 18 have been installed on the several sites of this project to count the staff per zone.
UBY PLATEFORM
Our platform provides real-time monitoring for both indoor and outdoor applications.
The site can be divided into different virtual zones according to the progress of the work.
Zone counters can be set to define thresholds to be respected on site.
