The project involves a westward extension of the Tung Chung Line (TCL), and the design and construction of a new station at Tung Chung West and a tunnel from the existing Tung Chung Station in Hong Kong.
overview
Client: MTR Hong Kong
Contractor: Bouygues Travaux Publics / Dragages Hong Kong
Project type: Public Works, Mass Transit tunnel
Project Completion: 2025
challenge
The main challenge of this project is the dense residential areas in the Tung Chung neighborhood. The launching shaft is located right in the middle of the Tung Chung Crescent residential estate. Excessive noise could disturb the peace of this usually quiet environment and cause discomfort to the residents.
Uby Solution
The objective of UBY is to gather useful data about the noise on the site, including both the dB level and a 360° image to pinpoint where the noise is coming from quickly. It accelerates the investigation of the noise by combining the noise level and the image. Our aim is to notify the Bouygues TP – DragagesHK JV about any loud noise exceedance that might bother residents and send alerts to the project team.
Installed at a minimum of 5-meter height, the Meduse sensor combines directional microphones, camera, and AI to determine the direction of the dominant noise source in real-time. It displays the noise level and origin direction as colored hexagons on a 360° environment picture, allowing users to visualize noise effectively.
Meduse sensor is integrated into the interface UBY Environment platform to trigger alerts, push information and generate reports.

Benefits for the operation
In this challenging environment where the works are in the middle of a residential estate, it is crucial to monitor the noise generated by the site activities and to address noise complaints from the neighbourhood that are not related to the construction site. Having a tool to investigate noise exceedance levels is essential.
The Meduse noise sensor allows to « see what you hear » by leveraging AI technology to merge the noise with an image and sent real-time alerts.
